Bentonite Clay – is it a good detoxifier?

Dr. Wald’s answer:  “Bentonite clay does bind to toxins in the small and large intestine. Having said this, it does not bind to nearly all toxins. Weight gain, or difficulty losing weight, may be at least partially related to toxic build up as many toxins are fat soluble – meaning, that they store in the bodies fat tissue. The body stores fat-soluble toxins to dilute the toxins.  There is a saying in naturopathy that goes like this, “the solution to pollution is dilution”. The body puts the toxins in the fat tissue, but the body also does not want to burn fat if it is using the fat as a reservoir to store and dilute (make less toxic) the toxin(s). Bentonite can and does bind to certain toxins, but not to mercury for example. So, depending upon which toxin(s) you want to remove only lab testing will help determine if bentonite, or another form of detoxifier (binder) is best.  Finally, if the toxin(s) are responsible for weight gain and difficulty losing weight, you should see fairly immediate results with the bentonite. And, toxins of various types can negatively affect the thyroid, adrenal and other glands that affect metabolic rate beyond the fat-storage ability of the body.”  Check out Dr. Wald’s nutritional products at: www.blooddetective.com especially Reds Protect, Green’s Detox and Longevity Complete.
